Learn the Video Ad Specs

  • Video codec

    No matter the video ad format, the video codec can be H-246, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4.

    The two video resolution that YouTube allows for video ads are:

    640 × 360 (19:9)

  • Frame rate

    The frame rate for a video ad is 30 FPS.

    The maximum size of the video file you can upload is 1 GB.

Choosing the Ad Format

  • TrueView ads

    These are the skippable ads. The total duration is 30 seconds, but a user can choose to skip it after 5 seconds. In TrueView ads, you need to choose either the In-stream or Discovery ad.

  • Non-skippable video ads

    These ads cannot be skipped and can be played before, during, or at the end of the video.

  • Bumper ads

    These are short and non-skippable. It is only 6 seconds long and plays at the end of a video.

Setting Up the Ad Campaign

  • Upload the video

    The first step is uploading the video you have created as the ad.

  • Create your campaign

    Create a Google Ads account. Use the same email as your YouTube channel and sign in. Click the

    campaign tab and + button to create a new campaign. Choose ‘video’ as the campaign type.

  • Set the campaign goal
